Skills and Experience:
This position will be responsible for the accurate and timely preparation for commercial construction project proposals and bids. Identify and computes labor, material, and time costs by studying proposals, blueprints, specifications and other bid documents.



  • Minimum 15 years previous Senior level commercial construction estimating experience with public, private or federal projects is required
  • Significant knowledge and experience on CM/GC, CMaR, Design Build projects, complex competitive bid projects, conceptual estimating and preconstruction services.
  • Proven track record of success working internally with an operations team, upper management and externally with Owners, Architects/Engineers, and subcontractors.
  • B.S. Degree – Construction Management, Construction Engineering or Civil Engineering

Day-to-day responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Leads the development of program and conceptual estimates using historic benchmarking data and industry experience
  • Obtains market cost data from subcontractors, suppliers and others for use in pricing
  • Prepares takeoffs for all work except Mechanical and Electrical systems when design is sufficiently developed.
  • Reviews and finalizes estimate unit cost pricing to reflect current market conditions. Compares to historical benchmarks.
  • Interacts with designers to develop a complete project scope.
  • Cultivates relationships with members of designers and project team members.
  • Prepares cost reconciliation between two or more estimates; track and explain differences.
  • Cultivates long-term relationships with clients and designers.
  • Stays abreast of new and emerging industry practices.
  • Participates in industry associations
  • Communicates effectively with other project team members and clients.,
  • Develops relationships with designers, consultants and subcontractors.
  • Participates in and leads team meetings as appropriate.
  • Develops and maintains cost databases
  • Keeps others informed proactively.
  • Presents information in a professional, concise, understandable fashion
  • Addresses issues effectively as they develop
  • Resolves and/or escalates issues in a timely fashion.
  • Communicates difficult/sensitive information in a diplomatic manner.
  • Manages the preconstruction process for the large and complex projects

  • Prepares bid packages and develops contracting strategies
  • Develops preconstruction and construction schedules
  • Knowledge of construction market including pricing conventions and trends
  • Be experienced with computerized estimating software, preferably MC Squared or Timberline.
  • Requires ability to think conceptually and develop complete and accurate estimates from limited information.
